The Australian Welding Institute (AWI) was founded in May 2010 by four directors in who have a collective passion for the Australian welding industry and have an extensive and diverse experience in fabrication and welding.

The AWI aims to:
  • create a network of like-minded associates, that are passionate about the Australian welding and fabrication industry
  • provide a forum for exchanging information, to share welding technical information and encourage member participation
  • promote greater participation of the Australian welding and fabrication industry in major projects
  • encourage asset owners to see the value in using home grown skills
  • highlight that welding requires is a “Special Process” and requires a skillset that should be developed and harnessed
  • highlight that it takes skill and knowledge to produce a weld deposit that complies with codes and standards and generate the associated documentation
  • offer Australian Standard Welding Supervision and Inspection qualifications with emphasis on AS 1796 and AS 2214 Certificates
The Institute provide services that benefits its members and it aims to evolve its service offerings further with time.

Member services currently provided are:
  • 'Welding Flash' Forum: acts as a respository of information that can be searched for at any time.
  • Searchable Database: search for other members easily
  • Technical Resources: search for welding-related documents and resources
  • Events: AWI holds regular events and functions throughout the year 
  • Certification: highlights simplified and credible certification system for welding operators, welding supervisors and welding inspectors
  • Education: the AWI will look at providing workshops to cover innovation and new technologies to assist members and the welding industry to stay abreast of new and developing Standards
