The Aussie Water Wall from Australian Pump Industries has been designed to add a new dimension to fire fighting operations and personal protection.

The water wall creates a 300m², 12-15m high wall of water jets from a single Aussie Smart Hose, the concentrated impact of which can be used to stop fire in its tracks or isolate a dangerous spill situation.

Aussie Product Manager, Brad Farrugia explains that the Water Wall solution is ideal for several applications from creating firebreaks to chemical control. Designed to be used in containment situations, the Aussie Smart Hose prevents fires from spreading by creating a firebreak, and protects adjacent sensitive environments from heat damage. It can also be used in an isolating capacity in applications such as fuel and hazmat refilling work or decontamination.

According to Farrugia, one Water Wall can deliver a water safety barrier into a high risk situation, not only protecting operators but also allowing human resources to be deployed more efficiently. The Water Wall can also be used to deliver extinguishing and wetting agents, disinfectants and other chemicals. Jetting vapours and liquids can assist in the absorption of hazardous heavy gases. Chemicals can be introduced to the water mist to neutralise a dangerous environment.

The Aussie Water Wall consists of 20m of 75mm Duraflex hose with 25 high-grade steel, interchangeable nozzles. Weighing only 16kg, the Water Wall is flexible enough for rough terrain, including steps and rugged bushland. Coverage can be extended by locking sections together. Counter pressure generated by the nozzles prevents twisting of the self-stabilising hose. The water can be jetted horizontally or vertically and jets can be sealed off using dummy plugs.

The Smart Hose can deliver water up to 1550 lpm depending on the pressure available and the nozzles used. Storz couplings are optional.

Water Wall is ideally suited for use with high pressure/ high flow pumps such as Aussie Fire Chief or Mr T fire fighting pumps. The Fire Chief has a maximum flow of 450 lpm and head of up to 75m (107psi). Aussie Mr T has a maximum flow of 450 lpm and head of 90m (128psi).

Farrugia adds that the Water Wall has already drawn the attention of fire fighters; Aussie Pumps also expects the mining, oil and gas, and chemical industries among other sectors to be interested in the new solution.

The Aussie Smart Hose is part of Australian Pump Industries’ fire fighting and safety range.
