Australian Pump Industries introduces a new range of submersible pumps from Tsurumi Pump into the Australian and South Pacific markets.

Moving the thick slurries found in quarries can be very challenging for any submersible pump. Tsurumi Pump, a world-leading manufacturer of submersibles has developed a new series for this application.

Tsurumi’s KTV series is a range of cast iron, heavy duty slurry pumps with an integrated agitator that stirs the solids-laden liquid for smooth and efficient suction. The pump’s side flow, top discharge design enables the liquid to go from the pump chamber directly through a channel in the body housing through to the discharge port, allowing for installation in confined spaces.

The constant flow of liquid keeps the motor cool, extending life and enabling it to continue to operate even in shallow water. Tsurumi engineers claim the KTV can continuously operate in depths as shallow as 140mm. The semi-vortex pump design minimises start-up failure from blocked impellers.

Aussie Pumps’ Craig Bridgement explains there are two models in the series powered by 2kW and 3kW three-phase 415v motors; both are suitable for DOL starting making them easy to install and operate in the field.

Key features of the KTV series slurry pumps include a main impeller in a semi-open style design that passes slurries with ease, double silicon carbide mechanical seals, where both seal surfaces are oil immersed away from the pumped liquid, double shielded ball bearings, and impeller and agitator in high chrome cast iron construction for maximum wear resistance.

The cable is fitted with a unique anti-wicking gland that will block the ingress of water to the motor in the event the power cable is submerged or ‘wetted’. Given that cable damage is a major cause of premature failure, the anti-wicking gland saves the motor from burn out.

Features also include a Circle Thermal Protector (CTP) fitted as standard to protect from both excess heat and amp draw, shutting down the system before serious damage can occur, a 420 grade stainless steel shaft and an 8m heavy duty chloroprene rubber cable.

These heavy duty pumps are inexpensive and come with a unique three-year warranty.
