AUSTRALIAN Pump Industries recently won a contract for unique fire fighting pump kits for tourist vessels operating on the Nile river in Egypt.
The Aussie pump sets were chosen for their reliability, sturdy design and excellent operating features, which include turning water into mist for fire fighting.
The fire fighting system is revolutionary in its approach. It uses high pressure water, at relatively low flows, to provide a ‘mist or fog’ to virtually starve the fire of oxygen.
This in turn means the fires can be brought under control quickly without using vast quantities of water. In conventional marine fire fighting compartments are shut off and fire mains used to flood the threatened area.
The system uses 1500psi pressure (105 bar) with a flow of 174L per minute. The pumps are powered by 35kW electric motors.
The 12 complete fire pump sets were mounted on heavy duty galvanised steel skids with their own integrated fire pump control panels.
