For example, many fail to realise that it is illegal to leave the keys in an unattended forklift. This is to prevent unauthorised use of the forklift.

Many companies get fined, and face expensive insurance problems because an unauthorised driver (casual staff, truck drivers, contractors etc) has used their forklift and had an accident.

If an unauthorised person has access to a forklift, they are not covered under insurance and can be fined.

Obviously there are some disadvantages to removing the keys from machines, and this can take some getting used to. 


People can lose them or accidentally take them home.

However the positives - including lower insurance premiums, and less risk of damage and injury caused by accidents - outweigh the negatives.
