According to Australian Forklift Training , forklift operators are required to keep to the left hand side of road ways and wide aisles. When forklift operators know that they need to pull to the left when another forklift approaches head on, there is little confusion.
Many operators will pass on which ever side they like, which can create chaos. The correct procedure is to keep to the left always, allowing on coming vehicles to pass down the right hand side.
When overtaking slower vehicles from behind, a forklift operator must sound the horn and wait until the slower operator has seen the forklift, and assure that no vehicles are coming the other way. Then, the forklift operator can overtake carefully down the right hand side of the slower vehicle.
