Safety culture needs leaders: professor

Supplier News

A safety culture is not developed with motivational messages but by the practices of leaders, argues a Safety In Action Conference keynote speaker.

Author of the newly released Safety Culture and Risk and Professor of Sociology at the Australian National University, Dr Andrew Hopkins will address the conference on 21 March.

Professor Hopkins will apply lessons learnt from Esso’s Longford Gas Plant explosion and other corporate safety disasters to show how organisations can build and nurture a successful safety culture.

His address will be based on his newly released book Safety, Culture and Risk, published by CCH in Sydney, phone 1300 300224.

The Conference will be held from Monday 21 to Wednesday 23 March 2005 at the Melbourne Convention Centre and a trade show will run concurrently at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
