The National Forklift Championships is a highlight of the Sydney Materials Handling trade show being held this week at the Sydney Showground.
The Sydney Materials Handling trade show and the Safety Show, organised by Australian Exhibitions & Conferences are running concurrently during Safe Work Australia Week from October 26 to 28.
Two judges will watch every move of the 19 finalists from around Australia as they race the clock to perform tasks in line with the National Loadshifting Standard.
Based on the heats, the judges are tipping a much tougher competition this year.
Australian Warehousing Association President Bill Henman remarks that all participants are eager to be the 2010 national champion and win the $1500 prize money.
The action will not be limited to the championship contenders. Visitors to The Safety Show and Sydney Materials Handling with valid forklift licences on Wednesday will compete for prizes in a ten-pin bowling novelty event.
Also new to the National Forklift Championships will be counterbalanced battery electric forklifts.
