The association operates in accordance with the following objective:
“To ensure that our members are equipped with the skills to strive for best practice principles and to deal with important issues impacting the surface finishing industry.”
Various activities and initiatives are organised by the association in an attempt to achieve this simple yet coherent objective.
Firstly, the association is involved in promoting its members and the services they provide within the surface finishing industry. This includes not only tradespeople, but manufacturers of the raw materials required for surface finishing products, as well as importers and suppliers.
A range of training and educational programs are facilitated by the association with the aim of educating and further developing the skills of those involved in the surface finishing industry.
- An introduction to powder coating course
- A basic electroplating course
- Intermediate management courses
- A nationally recognised apprenticeship/traineeship program, which is a joint initiative between the association and Murray Mallee Training Company
Members are encouraged to operate in accordance with the Australian Standards developed specifically for the surface industry. These ensure industry professionals conduct themselves in a fair and appropriate manner.
The association produces Surface Finishing, a magazine that contains industry news, information about upcoming events, feature articles and any other information of relevance to the surface finishing industry for the benefit of members.
