Last year, few companies anticipated just how important Designbuild could beto growing an export business. Companies consider the event a good opportunity to build domestic profile, support distributors, and foster local sales.
But the presence of 21 Austrade export facilitators and 160 international buyers saw real export opportunities arise for a range of local companies. In 2007, Austrade will expand its export initiatives at Designbuild. So the message is, be prepared, and get ready to reap the benefits of new international business.
In an initiative supported by Diversified Exhibition Services, Austrade will again be bringing key international contacts to Designbuild in 2007, under a new Premium Buyer program.
According to Austrade, its aim is to help facilitate international business. Starting in April, exhibitors will have the opportunity to view profiles of international visitors and request meetings if they find a business match. Austrade will also be holding a seminar and networking function for exhibitors and buyers.
Advance Scaffold, manufacturers of high quality, modular, aluminium and fibreglass scaffolding, was one company to capitalise on Austrade’s presence in 2006. After seeing the Advance Scaffold product at Designbuild, Austrade recommended Advance Scaffold to a key construction contractor in Port Moresby, and several months later a deal was done.
This added Papua New Guinea to a list of new international markets for Advance Scaffold, including the US, the UK and Europe and the Pacific Rim. Designbuild is positive about the impact of Austrade’s activities in the event. According to Designbuild, it met a number of Austrade staff and its buyers who were interested in its products. The sale to PNG was an unexpected bonus to Designbuild’s trade show results.
According to Dux Water Systems, there is a similar story. Austrade Taiwan Business Development Manager sought producers of hot water systems for a customer seeking a new supplier of high-quality product. She was able to explain to her customer that Australian designed and manufactured Dux water heaters had a track record of innovation and were good in energy performance.
Not only did she refer Dux Water Systems on to her customer, but she made sure he had its marketing material and followed up with him patiently as Dux Water Systems negotiated. She certainly made Dux Water Systems’ job easier. In November 2006 an export sale was made. Dux Water Systems will be working closely with Austrade again this year.
Austrade encourages exhibitors to participate in its activities at Designbuild 2007, details of which will be released in coming months. Austrade also suggests you let your Export Managers know about its activities. You do not have to leave Australia to do international business.
