Austin Engineering has won yet another new and important contract with one of their large mining customers in Chile.
This award comes only a week after Austin won a three-year repair and maintenance contract for Codelco's Ministro Hales mine.
Codelco is the Chilean state-owned copper mining company and its Gabriela Mistral (Gaby) mine, located 120km south of Calama has significant reserves and an expected operating life of over fifteen years.
Austin's operation in Calama in northern Chile has secured a five-year contract for the provision of heavy equipment lifting and support services for Codelco's Gaby mine. The base value of the contract is approximately $14.5m with additional 'spot' services estimated at between $2.5m and $4m. The contract will commence in the middle of September 2013.
Austin Engineering Managing Director Michael Buckland comments that the contract win reinforces the importance and potential of Austin’s strategic presence in Chile. Being the central hub of the Chilean copper industry, the Calama region will provide further revenue growth opportunities for Austin's business expansion.
Austin has recently secured dump truck tray repair work from the Gaby mine. The addition of equipment lifting and support services will further benefit Austin as it pursues more repair work from the mine and the wider Codelco organisation, which has five large copper mines in the Calama area.
