Assembly Technologies P/L, the Australian importers of Deprag air tools and air motors has announced that Deprag’s 67 series of air motors (20W to 1.2kW) have gained ATEX 100 approval for use in dust or gas contaminated environments (not mining). Previously air motors could be used without restriction in explosive environments but current international guidelines dictate that all equipment being used in explosive environments should be certified.
Air motors are often overlooked, but offer several advantages to the design engineer. They are much smaller and lighter than equivalent electric motors, can be washed down (perfect for food industry) and operate in dusty and wet environments without damage. Air motors can be stalled indefinitely and reversed frequently without damage and offer high start up torques.
Deprag offer 4 ranges of pneumatic motors. All are manufactured in Germany and cover a wide range of speeds within the power range of 20W to 18kW. Deprag also manufacture short run custom made motors, for example they have made air motors completely out of ceramic for the nuclear industry.
