MAXIM Integrated Products, represented by Arrow , has introduced the MAX4206/MAX4207 precision transimpedance logarithmic amplifiers designed to simplify complex application designs including medical instrumentation, photodiode current monitoring, and analogue signal processing.

These devices measure current over a 100dB dynamic range.

The MAX4206 is a logarithmic amplifier that operates from either a single +2.7V to +11V supply, or a dual ±2.7V to ±5.5V supply. The MAX4207 is a dual-supply device that operates from ±2.7V to ±5.5V. The MAX4206 sums currents to a 0.5V input common-mode voltage, while the MAX4207 offers a ground-referenced summing input.

Both devices offer a 0.25V/decade trimmed-output scale factor, an adjustable-output offset voltage, and an uncommitted op amp for filtering noise, adding offset, or adding supplementary gain. A 0.5V reference is also included to generate a precision current reference using an external resistor.

The MAX4206/MAX4207 are available in a 16-pin TQFN package in the extended industrial (-40°C to +85°C) temperature range.
