MAXIM Integrated Products, represented in Australia by Arrow Electronics , has released the MAX9994 integrated SiGe mixer. It is designed for 2.5G/3G wireless-infrastructure applications.

It provides 8.3dB of conversion gain, 9.7dB of noise figure and an IIP3 of 26.2dBm. Its 2RF-2LO performance is 67dBc for a -10dBm RF level and 62dBc for a -5dBm RF level. It is suitable for 1700MHz to 2200MHz WCDMA/UMTS, DCS/PCS/EDGE, cdma2000, and TDMA basestations where high linearity and low noise figure are critical for enhanced receiver sensitivity and blocker immunity.

The device offers an IF frequency range of 40MHz to 350MHz, with a low-side LO injection range of 1400MHz to 2000MHz. An LO frequency range of 1900MHz to 2400MHz is also supported via the MAX9996 which has been optimised for high-side LO injection.

It integrates a double-balanced mixer core with two amplifiers, two baluns, an LO switch and dozens of discrete components. The total board space used by the downconverter is halved and the discrete part count is reduced by 34%. Because the device provides more than 8dB of conversion gain, the designer can eliminate a complete IF amplifier stage within the receiver lineup.

Frequency hopping is supported with the integrated SPDT LO switch with switching speeds of under 50ns and 45dB of LO1-to-LO2 isolation. The onboard 0dBm drive LO buffer provides ±3dB drive-variance control, yielding stable gain, NF and IIP3 performance over temperature, supply and input power. The device has a gain-variation performance of ±0.75dB over the industrial temperature range of -40ºC to 85ºC. IIP3 spread is ±0.5dB over temperature.

The MAX9994 comes in a 5mm x 5mm, 20-pin thin QFN. Lead-free packaging is also available.
