MAXIM Integrated Products, represented by Arrow Electronics , has introduced the MAX6642, a precise two-channel, digital temperature sensor that accurately measures the temperature of a remote PN junction within ±1ºC and its own die within ±2ºC.

It features a single over-temperature alarm and operates through an SMBus-compatible, 2-wire interface.

The MAX6642 comes in eight factory-preset versions, occupying different addresses on the SMBus to prevent conflicts in multiprocessor-based systems.

This device operates over a temperature range of -55ºC to +150ºC with performance optimized from +60ºC to +100ºC.

To enhance system reliability, the MAX6642 includes an SMBus timeout. A fully programmable overtemperature alarm allows complete configuration of the ALERT-bar output.

The MAX6642 SMBus interface accepts standard system management write byte, read byte, send byte, and receive byte commands to read the temperature data and to program the alarm threshold.

The MAX6642 has a 3V to 5.5V supply voltage range and is packaged in a 6-pin, leadless, 3mm x 3mm, thin QFN occupying the same footprint as a standard SOT23.
