MAXIM Integrated Products, represented by Arrow Electronics , has introduced the MAX1584/MAX1585, a high efficiency power-supply solution for slim digital still cameras and digital video cameras.
The MAX1584/MAX1585 provide higher efficiency and a smaller solution size when compared to other conventional multichannel controller solutions that use only external power switches.
The step-up and step-down dc-dc converters internal to the MAX1584/MAX1585 include synchronous rectifiers that provide 95% efficient conversion for the 5V system and 1.5V or 1.8V core supplies.
On both devices, the AUX3 is a step-down controller that generates a 3.3V logic supply. In addition, two controllers supply power for the white-LED backlight module, positive and negative CCD biases, and positive and negative LCD biases.
On the MAX1585, the AUX2 is an inverting dc-dc controller that generates negative outputs without a transformer.
The MAX1584/MAX1585 5mm x 5mm, TQFN package, is 70% smaller than existing solutions using only dc-dc controllers.
This device also eliminates at least 27 external components such as transformers, diodes, external power switches, resistors, and capacitors, saving no less than 63% board space.
All dc-dc channels operate at one fixed frequency settable from 100kHz to 1MHz to optimise size, cost, and efficiency. The MAX1584/MAX1585s' input-voltage range is 0.7V to 5.5V and they are intended for single-cell lithium-ion (Li+) and 2 or 3-cell alkaline battery inputs.
The MAX1584/MAX1585 are screened for the extended industrial temperature range (-40ºC to +85ºC).
