National Semiconductor (distributed by Arrow Electronics ) has announced an improved set of software drivers for its Geode products that support the Microsoft Windows Embedded with SP1 OS.
This enables the Geode solution to support new features such as remote boot and device servicing, allowing developers to reduce maintenance costs and accelerate time-to-deployment, according to National Semiconductor thin client business unit director Ziv Azmanov.
“Optimising the base interaction between the OS and the Geode hardware is key to our customers and allows them to focus on making quality products,” Azmanov said.
“In this highly competitive device market, OEMs need a reliable and powerful microprocessor for Windows XP Embedded-based devices,” Microsoft embedded and appliance platforms group director Scott Horn continued.
“By providing support for Windows XP Embedded with SP1, the Geode processors will enable OEMs to create the most advanced and full-featured connected hardware, and to bring those devices to market quickly and cost-effectively.”
Applications to benefit include thin client development, retail point of sale devices and advanced set-top boxes.
