MAXIM Integrated Products, represented by Arrow Electronics , has introduced the MAX4007/MAX4008 high-voltage, precision, high-side sensing, 10:1 current monitors specifically designed for sensing photodiodes in fiber applications.
These devices operate from a 2.7V to 76V supply and monitor 250nA to 2.5mA of current, making them suitable for APD or PIN photodiode applications.
Current monitoring beyond the guaranteed (250nA to 2.5mA) limits is possible over the entire temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) with better than 5% accuracy.
These features make the MAX4007/MAX4008 suitable for all current monitoring applications requiring accurate measurements. The output levels produce a signal proportional to the reference current monitored without impacting the referred current.
An internally trimmed 10 kilohms resistive load provides an output voltage proportional to the reference current for the MAX4008. The MAX4007 output produces a corresponding current equal to one-tenth the reference current monitored. Current can be monitored from 10nA to 10mA with reduced accuracy.
Both current monitors offer an internal current-limiting circuit to 20mA, which protect the ICs against short-circuit-to-ground conditions. If temperature exceeds 150°C, thermal shutdown circuitry is enabled to protect the device. The output monitor pin is clamped, protecting connecting circuitry from overvoltage conditions.
The MAX4007/MAX4008 are available in the space-saving 6-pin SOT23 and 8-pin QFN packages.
