BI Technologies, represented in Australia by Arrow Electronics , has developed a power factor corrector (PFC) evaluation board that provides a means to add a comprehensive PFC front end to any power supply design. The evaluation board contains control and power circuitry along with the required inductor assembled onto a compact board.
Capable of handling up to 3kW of power with proper heat sink, this ready-to-run board accepts 85V rms to 265V rms input voltage at 50Hz to 60Hz. The PFC evaluation board incorporates the company’s 7720 series power factor correction module which consolidates the required input bridge rectifier, high speed/low resistance FET, ultra-high-speed diode and an over-temperature detector into a single component.
The module’s design reduces costs associated with a heat sink, provides space reduction, saves assembly time and eliminates inventory and incoming inspection issues associated with the many components it replaces. Standard applications include switching power supplies from 500W to 3000W, motor drives and power servo amplifiers.
