NATIONAL Semiconductor, represented in Australia by Arrow Electronics , has released the LMV422 dual-mode operational amplifier.

Its power-saving mode allows power consumption to be reduced while maintaining an active circuit. This allows for faster turn-on times in smoke detectors and other sensor interface applications where reaction time is critical.

The LMV422 is a rail to rail operational amplifier. It has an external control pin and can be switched between a low-power (2μA per channel), low bandwidth (27KHz) mode and a full-power (400μA per channel), wide bandwidth (8MHz) mode. These combinations reduce power consumption, maintain necessary charges on the coupling capacitors and shorten the time needed to stabilise the signal after switching from low-power to high-power mode.

The input bias of the LMV422 is 5pA, with a supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5V and a common mode rejection ratio of 85dB.
