Elevator buckets, hazard monitoring

Supplier News

4B Braime Elevator Components, a leading manufacturer of bulk handling components, will concentrate on four products at BULKEX.

These comprise: the CC-S elevator bucket; the Starco/Super Starco elevator buckets; the T500 Hotbus -- a remote hazard monitoring system for complete facility protection; and the Watchdog Elite -- a hazard monitoring system for bucket elevators.

4B Braime, represented in Australia by Apex Fenner , has developed what it describes as "the world's first stackable CC-style polymer elevator bucket". It is stackable in the sense that the buckets nest inside one another for reduced storage and greater freight savings due to increased density and lower freight classification.

The patent-pending design includes tapered sides for improved filling and discharge, as well as the Iceberg Edge, a thick front lip design which eliminates bowing, therefore maintaining original capacity and a clean discharge.

The CC-S bucket provides greater durability and maximum wear life, says 4B chief engineer Jim Mawson. "Buckets with thinner front lip designs tend to wear more quickly and over time can develop back-legging or down-legging problems," he said.

The Super Starco elevator bucket from 4B Braime - - an enhancement of the original Starco bucket - - has been widely adopted by industry as a low profile elevator bucket system.

Due to the high demand for these buckets, 4B Braime has now introduced a broader range of sizes for the HDP version. Available in HDP, nylon, polyurethane and steel, this elevator bucket design, says 4B Braime, provides greater capacities to elevator legs than any other "modified" low profile bucket manufactured.

Correctly tapered sides and front lip angle allow maximum filling and proper discharge over a wide range of pulleys and speeds.

The Starco system is versatile and suitable for handling a wide range of materials from grain and meals to cement and fertilisers. 4B Braime offers free engineering to compliment this proven elevator bucket system, which provides maximum bucket fill at close spacing and effective operation over a wide speed range. In addition, its stream pattern reduces product degradation and dust.

The new HotBus Digital Serial Communication System from 4B offers customers a simple and cost effective approach to continuous bearing temperature monitoring. With up to 256 bearing sensors on a single twisted pair cable, installation is easier and maintenance free. The system allows complete control with user adjustable relative ambient and absolute trip points for each sensor.

Billed by 4B Braime as the bucket elevator monitor for the 21st century, the 4B Watchdog "Elite" uses non-contacting, magnetic sensors to monitor belt speed and belt alignment at the head/boot or both. Additional sensors monitor bearing temperature, head pulley alignment and plugged spout conditions.

The system incorporates dual microprocessor control, using the latest PIC microprocessors and non-volatile (EEPROM) memory chips. An LCD screen displays elevator status messages (available in four different languages) and a super-bright LED screen displays belt speed.

BULKEX 2006 Bulk Materials Handling Exhibition will be held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre from September 25-27.
