Ansell have undertaken a commitment to ensure company-wide compliance to ISO 14001 – an internationally recognised standard that provides a model for streamlining environmental management and guidelines to ensure environmental issues are considered with decision making practices.
Ansell comply with national and international standards for all Ansell manufacturing locations, endeavour to share global practices and employ a self assessment tool for continuous improvement.
Four of Ansell’s manufacturing sites were successfully re-certified to ISO 14001 during the fiscal year 2007, and over the period fiscal year 2004 to fiscal year 2007. Ansell reduced C02 emissions across all plants by a total of 15%.
Ansell’s goals in continuing improvement in environmentally responsible production include achieving ISO 14001 certification across all manufacturing plants by July 2009, and to achieve a further 15% reduction in C02 emissions during the period fiscal year 2008 to 2011. Further, Ansell aim to mandate ISO accreditation for all of their out-source suppliers.
Ansell have supported a number of charities and made significant donations to causes aimed at raising environmental awareness, including Clean Up Australia Day. Ansell donated large volumes of medical and protective gloves to Malaysian, Sri Lankan and Thai communities following the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami. Ansell is a founding member of the Asia Pacific Coalition on HIV AIDS, and have been included in Ethical Investor magazine’s “Ethical Investor 50” programme.
