THE rapid deployment of 3G mobile communication systems globally is increasing demand for W-CDMA and HSDPA networks.
Node B suppliers are facing key challenges in manufacturing larger numbers of Node B's with multiple functions that guarantee high quality at low cost.
In addition to this, carriers are facing a challenging business environment of keeping existing subscribers, attracting new ones and keeping TCO down.
This requires carriers to improve network installation, commissioning and maintenance efficiency together with network quality so that they can offer new, attractive and reliable services in a timely manner.
Anritsu Pty Ltd has developed a small and portable RNC simulator, model MD8391A, for manufacturing, installation, commissioning and maintaining Node B.
Using the MD8391A permits an easy and cost-effective configuration of a Node B test environment, eliminating the need for an actual RNC and core network, according to Anritsu.
Commissioning tests are made quickly and easily using the small and lightweight MD8391A along with the MT8220A UMTS Master (not depicted here), both of which are portable and lightweight instruments ready to deploy in the field.
The MD8391A supports W-CDMA Node B tests out of the box, and will also support 3GPP Release 5 HSDPA as an easy-to-add option.
Other options and add-on modules include support for a range of ATM interfaces, Ethernet interface, ISDN interface, voice codec and multi-channel BER testing.
