FI710 Optical Fibre Identifiers from Anritsu are used to identify live optical fibres. They have a maximum range between 0 to -40 dBm and can detect continuous wave, live optical transmission and low frequency modulated tones of 270 Hz, 1 kHz and 2 kHz. They are also lightweight, weighing only 7.5 oz and have a single hand operation.
The optical fibre identifiers employ local detection technology, which uses a macro-bend method, thus eliminating the need to open the fibre at the splice point for identification purposes. The presence of traffic, the direction of the transmission and the modulated tones on the fibre are indicated by LEDs.
These identifiers are extremely robust and provide a safe, non-destructive and economical means of identifying live optical fibres. Interchangeable heads are also available for these devices which allow practically any type of fibre, for example ribbon, jacketed and coated, to also be identified.
