American Power Conversion (APC ) has unveiled its new rack-mounted Smart-UPS 5kVA XL unit, offering a scalable system with remote monitoring capabilities.
The unit, which consumes 5U of rack space, allows for the addition of up to ten external battery packs for runtime of nearly three hours at the full load capacity of 4,000W.
The extra battery packs require 3U of additional rack space and can be added at any time.
Both the UPS and external battery pack contain hot-swappable, user-replaceable batteries that can be quickly removed and replaced without powering down the connected load or removing from the rack, according to APC business networks group VP Ed Bednarcik.
“In many cases, achieving the high availability demanded of today’s converged voice and data networks requires a UPS with a runtime greater than one hour,” Bednarcik said.
“This new model offers a centrally managed, scalable runtime solution capable of responding to these market demands with the reliability and manageability customers expect from a Smart-UPS.”
Bednarcik said the unit also features a pre-installed Network Management Card EX to provide remote monitoring capabilities, including control, event handling and unattended remote shutdown for systems over a network.
