Alpha Chemicals awarded Commonwealth Grant to develop a new method producing of ionic liquids

Supplier News

Alpha Chemicals was awarded a Commonwealth Ready Grant for a research project in collaboration with the University Of Sydney School Of Chemistry to develop a new method for the production of ionic liquids. Ionic liquids are not a new group of chemicals but the uses for these products is growing as they offer a variety of advantages in a broad range of industries.

Their low vapour pressure makes them potential ‘green“ solvents and other properties offer benefits in areas such as:

  • Ionic liquids can be found in areas such as battery performance
  • Cellulose production is another area in which Ionic fluids can be used
  • Metal refining
  • Catalysis
The establishment of a plant to produce ionic liquids in Australia will provide a facility to produce a range of products with a high degree of intellectual property and added value. These will be available for commercial applications and for research and experimental purposes.
