Excel Meridian Data, represented in Australia by Allied Data Systems , have released the SecurStor Astra SA.

Available in either 8-bay, 12-bay or 16-bay enclosures with choices of Ultra320 SCSI or 2Gb Fibre Channel host interfaces, the SecurStor Astra SA is a powerful yet cost effective solution.

Enterprise class SATA hard drives

The new Seagate Barracuda ES and ES.2 SATA Enterprise class 24x7 duty cycle drives are used for the SecurStor Astra SA enclosure and RAID engine.

Key features:

  • 2U rackmount chassis for 8-bay and 12-bay models , 3U rackmount chassis for 16-bay model
  • Capacity from 500GB up-to 8TB for 8-bay, up-to 12TB for 12-bay, and up-to 16TB for 16-bay model
  • Multiple concurrent RAID arrays supported, any combination of RAID 0, 1, 1E, 3, 5, 6, 10, or 50
  • Advanced RAID robustness with predictive data analysis to replace unhealthy disks in the array
  • Advanced RAID engine allows more than one RAID array to co-exist on each physical hard disk drive
  • AstraPath Multi-Path I/O (MPIO) fault tolerant and load balancing techniques
  • Embedded management GUI over Ethernet
  • 60-hour battery backup standard on RAID controller


Controller configuration:

  • (2) Ultra320 SCSI, or (2) 2Gb Fibre Channel host interfaces (field upgradeable)
  • 60-hour lithium-ion Battery Backup Module (BBU) standard and hot-swappable
  • 256MB cache standard, upgradable to 512MB or 1GB cache as an option for SCSI model Fibre Channel model is 256MB cache standard with optional upgrade to 512MB

RAID Engine:

  • Predictive data caching analysis with automatic cache optimisation
  • 512 command queue depth per controller, 16-byte CDB SCSI support for 64-bit LBA addressing and >2TB LUN support
  • RAID 0, 1, 1E, 5, 6, 10, or 50. Multiple RAID arrays can co-exist in the same subsystem. RAID level migration supported from RAID 5 to RAID 6
  • Advanced RAID physical disk partitioning allows for each physical HDD to support more than one Array Level simultaneously
  • Configurable stripe size from 64K up to 1MB per array
  • Background media polling and integrity checking, scheduled health monitoring runs as low priority service

Management tools:

  • Embedded on controller, no server side software installation
  • Ethernet based web browser with SSL capability
  • Event notification via SMTP email, SNMP trap, audible buzzer and visual LED representation

  • 8-bay and 12-bay SCSI models: Dual 260W hot swap redundant PSUs with PFC
  • 8-bay and 12-bay FC models: Dual 360W hot swap redundant PSUs with PFC
  • 16-bay model: Dual 400W hot swap redundant PSUs with PFC
  • 100-240 vac auto-switching, 8A @ 100vac, 4A @ 200vac, 50-60hz
  • Operating temp: 5’ to 40’ C, 95% relative humidity
