Allied Data Systems have made available a new model of serial adapters, the Sealink 4803 Ethernet to serial server, supplied by Sealevel.
The Sealink 4803 Ethernet to serial server connects RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 serial devices to an Ethernet network.
The server uses the industry standard RFC 2217 TCP/IP protocol to ensure maximum compatibility with a wide range of applications and devices.
With the highest guaranteed throughput for any Ethernet serial server, Sealink 4803 Ethernet to serial servers provide users with the highest guaranteed output for this style of serial adapters, including no reduction in speed due to using multiple ports.
After software installation, the 4803's serial ports appear as virtual COM ports to the host machine. Standard serial operating calls are transparently redirected to the 4803, guaranteeing compatibility with legacy serial devices and enabling backward compatibility with existing software.
There is also support for serial tunnelling, allowing two native serial devices to communicate over a network. Raw data socket mode is supported as well, eliminating the need for a driver.
Each port can be individually configured as RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485.
