Agilent Technologies has announced new USB powered, single pole, double throw coaxial switches that operate from DC to 18GHz, suggesting that they are the first to market to be driven by a USB port.

These U1810B USB coaxial switches support the standard plug-and-play functionality of typical USB devices, eliminating the need for additional power adapters or drivers, and simplifying setup. A button allows users to toggle the signal path between two output ports without using the software interface.

These features will assist engineers in designed switch matrices for telecommunications and electronics / semiconductor manufacturing applications.

U1810B USB coaxial switches also offer a guaranteed 5 million cycle operating life, with a typical life of 10 million, and guaranteed 0.03dB insertion loss repeatability.

The long operating life will help reduce the cost of test and ensures reliability of the test system throughout its life. The exceptional insertion loss repeatability will help minimize system measurement uncertainty, while maximizing test throughput.

An alternative software control interface is provided on the front panel of U1810B coaxial switches, though users can also control them using a range of software platforms such as C, LabVIEW or VEE.
