AGILENT Technologies and Software Concepts have announced modified versions of their wireless test products that work together to deliver cost-effective network emulation and Mobile IP connectivity for developers of wireless data applications.
Mobile IP is a protocol being deployed today in many high-speed data networks and is based on the cdma2000 wireless IP standard. The Mobile IP protocol allows mobile users who are roaming to stay connected to their IP data services.
To differentiate IP data services and handsets from the competition, wireless manufacturers and service providers are putting tremendous effort into the creation of new application software.
Application developers need cost-effective test tools that allow them to establish a data connection and quickly evaluate the performance of their software on the new handsets under realistic usage conditions.
In response to this need, Software Concepts has introduced a basic version of its Mobile IP test solution, the MIP 5800 Standard MOB-IP-SIM. It provides the Foreign Agent and Home Agent simulation that enables wireless devices to make the Mobile IP connection.
The MIP 5800 connects to an Agilent E5515C (8960 wireless communications test set) with Option 003 flexible CDMA base station emulator which runs the new Agilent E6702B cdma2000 lab application software.
Agilent's products provide required base-station emulation capability up to the full 153kb/s data rate supported by the standard, along with essential tests such as IP throughput measurement.
The Software Concepts and Agilent products also support the Simple IP protocol, which preceded Mobile IP and is still used today in many wireless data systems.
For wireless handset designers and other engineers who require broader capability including Mobile IP conformance testing, Software Concepts offers an enhanced product, the MIP 5850 Lab Test MOB-IP-SIM, and the CSP-5850 Conformance Script Pack.
These products also now work with the Agilent E5515C and E6702B to create a full-featured Mobile IP protocol test solution.
