AGILENT Technologies has announced that Elcom, a developer of microwave and RF signaling devices for wireless and optical communications, has adopted Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) software to help accelerate its new product design work and expand its product line.
ADS is electronic design automation software for communications product design. ADS provides an integrated environment for communications system, RF sub-system, and circuit-level (RFIC/MMIC, RF/microwave board and module) schematic and layout design entry and simulation.
Elcom specialises in high-end microwave signaling devices used in ultra-high-capacity fiber optic networks as well as wireless broadband and satellite communications networks.
The company is using ADS primarily in its research and development (R&D) efforts, and credits the software for enabling efficient design flow and accelerating time to market.
In order to develop a new frequency synthesiser in record time, Elcom needed to redesign some ultra-small filters, and that design work required simulating the filters' electromagnetic environments.
ADS enabled Elcom to run electromagnetic simulations with the filters encased in their actual housings, which enabled them to more quickly design and develop successful units.
The current ADS software release, ADS 2001, supports the following operating systems: Windows 98/NT4/2000; HP-UX 10.20 and 11.0; Sun Solaris 2.6, Solaris 7 and Solaris 8; and IBM AIX 4.3. Agilent 03 9210 2824.
