Agilent Technologies has introduced a multiplay test solution that combines line-rate, hardware-based performance statistics for video, voice and data services on the same test port.
Network equipment manufacturers and service providers can use the Agilent N2X multiservices test solution to characterise the ability of individual network elements or entire networks prior to deployment.
The test solution can help enforce Quality of Service (QoS) requirements and meet subscriber Quality of Experience (QoE) expectations, across multiple services at once.
Hardware-based traffic generation and analysis is necessary in order to scale the number of simulated network subscribers and to achieve deterministic measurements that are repeatable and consistent.
This architectural scalability, coupled with line-rate traffic generation, is what enables the Agilent N2X multiservices test solution to push the device or system under test to its limits and identify how different services play off each other in a converged network environment.
The Agilent N2X multiservices test solution provides powerful and flexible multiplay traffic generation and analysis based on user-defined subscriber profiles.
It is easy to simulate complex network topologies and dynamic subscriber behaviours using the large breadth of N2X protocol emulations including DHCPv4, DHCPv6, PPPoX, MLD and IGMP.
Each test port can concurrently display real-time video media quality metrics (e.g. MDI) and IPTV channel-zapping times along with voice MOS and data-forwarding performance measurements on a per-subscriber basis.
This unique capability is critical in order to identify how the number and behaviour of multiplay subscribers and mix of service traffic impacts overall subscriber QoE.
It is also mandatory to test all services on the same port to mirror real network deployments and realistically validate the multiplay readiness of network infrastructure equipment prior to widespread deployment.
New products and enhancements to the Agilent N2X multiservices test solution:
- Per-port multiplay measurements have been added to the existing N2X IPTV QoE productivity applications for both IPv4 and IPv6 networks
- New N2X VoIP SIP emulation software has been introduced to complement existing software for testing video and data services and cover all multiplay service implementations
- N2X ANCP/L2CP protocol emulation allows service providers and network equipment manufacturers to validate the topology discovery and line configuration capabilities of their ANCP-enabled routers and switches, which is key to ensure subscriber QoE in today's service-aware networks
"Multiplay services must be measured in context - as a whole, not in individual silos," said Rod Unverrich, General Manager of Agilent Technologies’ Data Networks Operation.
"In a single application, N2X measures the comparative quality of different multiplay services to evaluate a subscriber's overall quality of experience, which directly impacts subscriber retention and bottom-line revenue."
The Agilent N2X multiservices test solution is available now.
