Following a global co-operative arrangement established last year, Esko-Graphics ’ DeskPack and Plato file creation applications can be optioned with Agfa ’s prepress systems resulting in a complete workflow solution for offset packaging printers, from file creation to production.
“DeskPack and Plato are two valuable creation programs and are ideal complements to Agfa’s :ApogeeX workflow system,” explains Garry Muratore, Agfa’s Oceania marketing manager, “and the fact that we can integrate them highlights one of the benefits of using an ‘open’ system.
“Agfa and Esko-Graphics are dedicated to implementing products based on JDF/PDF standards and strongly promote the use of industry standards that allow customers to build multi-vendor workflow solutions.
“The mixed workflows demonstrate how powerful PDF is the preferred data carrier for graphics.”
DeskPack provides a set of plug-ins, drawn from Esko’s fully-featured Scope workflow system, for Adobe’s Illustrator and Photoshop software.
The extra modules add automation and communication to give users access to professional design and prepress production tools while still in the familiar desktop environment of the Adobe software.
The plug-in set for Illustrator includes the BoostX design tool, CheckX for file check and verification, TrapX trapping engine, BarX for bar code checking, ViewX for separation viewing, ArtiosCAD import and export, and StepX, a basic step-andrepeat function.
For Photoshop, Flexo Tools resolve flexo-specific printing issues, and Ink Tools allows spot colour ink retouching.
