LED lights from Marl International have been installed in the sports hall of Abbey Gate College in Cheshire, England to improve the environment.
Marl LED lights have transformed the sports hall at the Abbey Gate College, one of the most prestigious independent schools in North of England, providing much brighter and more even lighting that comes on instantly.
Commenting on the installation of LED lights at Abbey Gate College, Business Manager Andrew Bache explains that the real appeal of Marl LED lights lies in the convenience as well as the improved environment. Though the sodium lights were adequate for football and gymnastics, the multipurpose hall was also used for examinations and social events.
The installation of Marl LED lights has allowed the school to dramatically increase the light level in the hall, ensuring the corners and the central area are brightly lit. The quality of the LED lights is much whiter and more even, compared to the output of the sodium lamps that degrades over time.
According to Karl Brooks, Strategic Account Manager of Marl who managed the installation, the darkest areas of the hall are as brightly lit as the centre was previously, and the centre is even brighter.
In addition to improving the appearance, the new lights also offer cost savings in several areas. Where the sodium lights took about 20 minutes to warm up, and were consequently left on all day, the new LED lights are switched on only when required as they come on instantly.
Mr Bache appreciates the assistance provided by Marl in sourcing a suitable light for their application. A key improvement noticed in the hall environment apart from the improved brightness is that people no longer appear 'orange' in photographs.
The Abbey Gate College lighting installation involved the replacement of sixteen SON 250W sodium lamps with thirty-two 145W 774-series Bay Range 3-way LED floodlights.
Key benefits of the installation:
- Improved light levels across the hall with more even lighting
- Measured brightness has gone up 75% from around 200 lux at 1m from the wall to about 350 lux
- Light levels in the centre of the hall have gone up by just over 20% from 350 lux to 450 lux
- Instant illumination with no warm up required
