With strong wireless connectivity for industrial automation, control, and embedded applications, Advantech has unveiled the ARK-3384 embedded box computer with an integrated IEEE 802.11b/g wireless LAN that allows up to 54 Mbps of connectivity to Wi-Fi-based communication devices.
Developed to support both 802.11b and 802.11g protocols, the ARK-3384 maximises the use of wireless technology for embedded computing, while merging top-level performance, low power use, fanless operation, and a robust design into a compact and easy-to-install footprint.
Combined with a selection of control I/O, a Fast Ethernet port, and dual independent display support, the compact ARK-3384 brings high-end performance for wireless POI, ticketing, billing, fleet monitoring, logistics, and M2M applications.
At 264.5 x 69.2 x 137.25 mm in size, the ARK-3384 has a scalable uBGA479 socket designed for the Low Voltage Intel Pentium M/Ultra-Low Voltage Intel Celeron M processors, with up to 1.4 GHz core speed.
With lower heat output, the power-saving LV Intel Pentium M/ULV Intel Celeron M class processors offer good performance with fanless operation that is essential for applications requiring ultra-silent system support such as medical imaging, laboratory automation, and public information terminals.
The totally fanless architecture significantly reduces system downtime and promotes maintenance-free deployment for lower total cost of ownership. Accommodating up to 1 GB of DDR memory and supporting the recent Windows XP Embedded OS, the ARK-3384 brings a highly-responsive and reliable platform for deeply embedded utilisations.
The Intel 855GME or Intel 852GM chipset manages the ARK-3384 memory, display, storage, control, and communication interfaces. In addition to the fast 400 MHz Front Side Bus, the Intel 855GME/Intel 852GM chipset’s integrated Intel Extreme Graphics2 Technology is a cost-effective solution that supports dual independent displays for flexible display configurations.
The integrated graphics engine allocates up to 64 MB of dynamic video memory and renders quality 2D/3D graphics to the VGA port and the 36 bit D-Sub LVDS connector with backlight control. The graphics capability and AC’97 audio with 3D stereo sound and dual-6 W output amplifiers give the ARK-3384 impressive multimedia capabilities.
Endowed with a complete line-up of I/O interfaces for field-level devices, the ARK-3384 comes with two serial communication ports set in RS-232 and RS-232/422/485 configurations, three high-speed USB 2.0 ports, and a 10/100 BASE-T LAN port for dependable and high-bandwidth wired networking.
The ARK-3384 comes with a 2.5” hard disk drive bay and a CompactFlash Type I/II card slot for high-capacity or shockproof data storage. Rigidly tested to operate in rugged computing environments, the ARK-3384’s vibration-resistant cast aluminum housing promotes convenient integration and requires minimum installation space.
The ARK-3384 may be mounted inside equipment or machinery or installed in stand-alone DIN-rail, desk, or wall configurations.
