A MEMBER of the Automatic Data Capture Association, Matthews Australasia has developed a unique solution to meet the growing requirement for EAN128 barcoding on outer carton packaging. Using standard generic cartons, the solution is said to significantly reduce overall packaging costs plus reduce carton inventory by up to 80%.
The heart of the Matthews solution lies in its simplicity. A single scan of the EAN13 retail barcode on the primary product automatically sets up the generic carton printing equipment to apply all necessary outer carton coding. Production operators do not need to be concerned with programming or modifying printer messages; one scan makes all the required changes, including allowing for differing carton dimensions.
The system combines two printing technologies to achieve ideal carton coding. Thermal label printer/applicators are used to print and apply EAN128 barcodes to opposite or adjacent sides of a carton. All human readable text and logos are printed using Matthews’ own Drop-On-Demand ink jet printers. Matthews Australasia 1800 333 074.
