Accuweigh’s Melbourne branch supplied metal detection equipment to a Victorian food manufacturer to ensure metal contaminates do not pass through their manufacturing process unnoticed. Metal detection of food products is now a mandatory requirement when selling food products to supermarket chains.
The metal detection equipment was provided for the eastern suburbs plant of Diverse Foods to ensure their coated fruit pieces are free from metal contaminates in line with their quality control standards.
As a part of the metal detection supply, Accuweigh also custom manufactured a stainless steel conveyor with a 400mm plastic modular belt to transport the 10kg cartons and 20kg bags of filled product past the metal detection heads.
In the event of a positive metal detection reading, the conveyor automatically stops and an audible alarm sounds to alert the operator to the metal detection warning. The installation of the metal detection equipment was completed to the client’s satisfaction with the sensitivity of the metal detection meeting the client’s food inspection requirements by detecting metal contaminates of 2.0mm Fe, 2.0mm N Fe and 3.0mm S/S.
