New forklift licence testing requirements for NSW

Supplier News
According to forklift training specialist, Absolute Forklift Training , obtaining an LF forklift or LO order picker licence in NSW is about to get a lot harder and more expensive from January 2013.

NSW follows states such as Queensland and Victoria that have already started or are about to start on the new licencing requirements as per Worksafe regulations.

Going by Queensland's implementation, course time frames covering training and assessments have gone up to 5 days or more with costs levelling at around A$800 a course, which is more than double the cost of most current training courses in Sydney, NSW.

Operators driving without a licence or an expired licence, or businesses employing operators without current picture licences are violating the law. New WHS laws governing this aspect can penalise such forklift operators or businesses with fines running into thousands or tens of thousands of dollars respectively, depending on the number of violations.

Companies and forklift operators are advised to act right now and get their licences regularised when the costing, familiarity of the course structure and time frames are still known and understood.
