A.W.Bell 's FDM plastics prototyping machine can print multiple end-use materials including ABS, PC-ABS polycarbonate and polycarbonate-ISO. The parts are dimensionally stable for end-use conditions, and are up to 80% the strength of injection-mouldings.
The basic build envelope of 355 x 254 x 254mm does not limit part size, as multiple parts can be precision joined with guaranteed structural and dimensional integrity. The process removes the need for tooling on limited runs of small or large components, and lead times are 1-2 days from order.
The only requirement for the process is a 3D file in stp or iges format, and one can have a finished working model within a couple of days. Master patterns can also be produced as a base for silicon moulds or hard-tooling allowing replication of components as wax-patterns for Investment casting and master patterns for sand casting.
