TRILITHIC, represented by ASD Technology in Australia and New Zealand, has released the DCVF-5 automated pre-selector filter. It offers automated forward and return preselection, GPIB and front panel user control and switchable T7 - T13 channel filters.

It is tunable From 55MHz-880MHz, has a high-selectivity shape factor, an integrated 20dB preamplifier and switchable auxiliary signal ports for special testing requirements. The automated preselector filter is designed for quick, accurate and repeatable measurements of key CATV system network performance specifications.

The system provides the preselection needed for the accurate measurement of composite triple beat, cross modulation and other spurious signals in a working CATV system. When placed between a test instrument and the CATV system test point it blocks all un-needed signals, passing only the carrier or spectrum to be analysed to the instrument’s input. By eliminating input overload, a DCVF-5 can improve an instrument’s reliable measurement range by as much as 30dB. By using the GPIB control bus interface, the preselection filter is tuned concurrently with the test instrument, significantly reducing the time needed to obtain data for complex measurements such as composite triple beat, cross modulation and spurious signals.

The system can also be used to extend the range and accuracy of fiber optic measurements. Composite second order and system noise tests require filters with the best possible selectivity and shape factors. The DCVF-5 filter banks meet the requirements for testing modern CATV systems using fibre optic transport. Custom filter arrangements are also available.
