Apex Automation & Robotics’ PC programming capability has enabled them to integrate laser scanners and 3D vision systems. Apex Automation & Robotics have connected such devices on Ethernet networks with a PC, robot and PLC using TCP/IP communication protocol. Custom PC programs were developed by their software engineers to acquire large amount of data from these devices, analyse it and perform complex calculations. The relevant information was then sent to the PLC and robot in real time.
A typical example is the “eye-hand” coordination in one of their robotic palletising applications.
Apex Automation & Robotics used a laser scanner to scan boxes as they travel on a conveyor belt and send the data to the PC which performed calculations to determine the size and position of the box and send the information to the robot to adjust its gripper to suit.
