According to AMS Instrumentation and Calibration , Yamatake has released a series of Fieldbus devices that comply with the latest FOUNDATIONTM Fieldbus specifications.

The series includes pressure/differential pressure transmitters, an electromagnetic flowmeter and a smart valve positioner.

FOUNDATION Fieldbus is a standardized specification to enable field devices, PLCs and digital control systems to communicate with each other by means of a completely digital, two way communication. It resolves the problem that all owners of control systems have, that being the impossibility of bilateral communication with the proprietary system protocol. This is the start of a true multi-vender system architecture

It is fast, reliable and flexible

The communication speed is 31.25kbps, the fastest field communication available.

ITK, the interoperability test procedure for FOUNDATION fieldbus, enables the user to confirm the availability of communication with each fieldbus device through an actual communication test to ensure reliability.

The flexibility of the fieldbus system can be seen in the topology. Fieldbus topology permits multi-drop, tree or combination wiring.

A PID algorithm installed in the field device and performed in the field

By activating the PID control algorithm in a smart valve positioner or a transmitter, the user can change the control scheme from a centralized DCS to a real, distributed local control and thus minimize the size of the DCS. At the same time the user can introduce a clear control scheme such as optimum controls in the DCS or simple PID control in the field.
