ABB has released its PASS (plug and switch system) M00 72.5kV hybrid switchgear.
The PASS concept is a hybrid of ABB’s traditional air insulated (AIS) and SF6 metal-clad gas insulated (GIS) switchgear units designed as self-contained switching modules suitable for use in outdoor substations.
The system is capable of withstanding temperatures between -40° and +55°C and requires just one 700 x 700mm foundation block for the bay.
Now available after completing type testing, the PASS M00 module retains all the characteristics of ABB’s M0 145kV module, and has been adapted for lower voltage substations.
The PASS M00 module operates with a rated voltage of 72.5kV, rated frequency of 50/60Hz and a 2000A rated current.
The rated L.I. withstand voltage is 325kV and rated P.F. withstand voltage is 140kV.
The unit has a rated short time withstand current (3s) of 31.5kA and peak withstand current of 80kA.
Normally delivered completely assembled as a “72kV bay in a box”, each module is compact, energy-efficient, easy to install and virtually maintenance-free.
The line and busbar disconnectors, as well as the earthing switches, are integrated in the breaking chamber. This protects these components from environmental conditions. This ensures lifelong reliability and eliminates routine maintenance of high voltage parts, overcoming a major weakness of AIS substations.
Standard functions include current measurement, current interruption, disconnecting and earthing on both sides of the breaker, all of which can be customised.
