ABB Australia announces a new motor and drive package designed to optimise cost of ownership for pump and fan applications.
The new ABB high output synchronous reluctance motor and drive package combines a proven stator technology and an innovative rotor design with a best-in-class industrial drive loaded with new, purpose-designed software.
The new rotor has neither magnets nor windings, virtually eliminating power losses and making it uniquely cool. ABB has converted this temperature advantage into high power density coupled with high efficiency, resulting in extremely high output, a very compact design and low energy consumption, especially with partial load variable speed operation.
ABB’s new motor has a low bearing operating temperature, which extends bearing lifetime and service intervals. Since bearing failure causes about 70% of unplanned motor outages, ABB’s motor design brings down maintenance costs and improves reliability. Additionally, bearings can be replaced quickly and easily if required.
ABB’s new motor and drive package won the 2011 Automation Award at the SPS/IPC/DRIVES trade show in Nuremberg, Germany.
