Leading power and automation technology group, ABB has been commissioned for a process electrification project at a new pulp mill being built in South Sumatra, Indonesia.
As part of the contract, ABB will deliver medium and low voltage switchgears, distribution transformers, motors, drives and project services. The drives are produced in the world's largest drive factory located in Helsinki with the project being managed by ABB's unit in Vaasa, Finland, in cooperation with ABB in Singapore.
The growing demand for paper products throughout Asia is driving the establishment of new, state-of-the-art pulp mills that deliver higher efficiency, cleaner production and improved balance between capacity and demand.
Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB’s Process Automation division explained that ABB’s vast pulp and paper industry knowledge and project execution capabilities were important factors in winning the order. ABB’s advanced technologies are expected to maximise mill efficiency and reliability, while minimising environmental impact.
Backed by decades of experience in extensive global deliveries to the pulp and paper industries, ABB has executed similar projects for customers in Asia, Africa, Australia and South America.
