Leading power and automation technology group, ABB has been contracted by Western Power to supply and service multiple distribution transformers in Western Australia.
Western Power is a state government owned corporation that builds, maintains and operates one of the largest isolated electricity networks in the world, supplying power to more than one million customers every day.
The five-year contract will see ABB’s local and state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Perth continue to produce and service distribution transformers for installation across a vast and growing power network located in the south-west of Western Australia.
Scope of work covers the design, engineering, supply and service of 10kVA to 1000kVA up to 33kV rated distribution transformers for Western Power.
About 90% of the distribution transformers will be designed and produced by ABB Australia’s purpose-built transformer manufacturing facility in Malaga, Perth with factories in ABB’s regional network in Singapore, Hefei and Hanoi to provide additional manufacturing capacity support to meet supply-demand gaps.
Axel Kuhr, country manager for ABB in Australia explains that the transformers will help strengthen the reliability of the electricity network and support Western Power as it strives to satisfy the growing demand for electricity in Western Australia.
Distribution transformers are integral components of electrical grids, responsible for the efficient and safe conversion of energy across diverse voltage systems.
A leading global transformer manufacturer, ABB offers a full-range portfolio designed to meet ANSI, IEC and other local standards, including power transformers rated up to 1,000 kV, dry- and liquid-distribution transformers, as well as related services and components.
