ABB has signed an alliance agreement with the WA Water Corporation valued at $15 million over four years to provide the design and supply of SCADA, RTU and communication systems support and maintenance for the West Australian water utilities network.
Given the increased focus on improved water quality, conservation and distribution management, the water corporation is continually improving its ability to monitor and control its water network operations. The application of intelligent SCADA control and communication systems is pivotal in achieving this.
The design, installation, testing and commissioning of the SCADA control system will facilitate the integration of the Perth Seawater Desalination plant, under construction at Kwinana south of Perth, into the water network.
The plant will provide an extra 45 gigalitres of water each year and is the biggest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. The alliance also covers ongoing maintenance support of Water Corporation control systems extending as far east as the Goldfields.
