ABB Australia , the power and automation technology group, have announced the launch of their new AC 700F controller which is the the latest addition to the Freelance 800F control system. The controller comes with a very small footprint and is suitable for small applications consisting of 16 to 256 I/Os. The new controller is based on ABB Australia's AC500 hardware that provides a compact controller as part of the 800F system portfolio.
The CPU module is equipped with a front panel display for easy diagnosis, an Ethernet port for connection to the control network and two serial ports for MODBUS and extended diagnostic reasons. Up to eight local (analogue/digital) I/O modules of type S700 may be connected to the CPU. The CPU is based on an industrial Motorola Power PC and features 8MB RAM.
AC 700F control applications can be created in any of the five IEC 61131-3 dialects by using Control Builder F which includes:
- Function block diagram (FBD)
- Ladder diagram (LD)
- Instruction list (IL)
- Sequential function chart (SFC)
- Structured text (ST)
- Over 150 predefined function blocks
- User Created Function Block Function
The ABB Australia’s Freelance 800F control system is a contender for small to midrange process control applications. It has the appearance and functionality similar to that of a DCS system with the open networking flexibility of a PLC system. The systems engineering, graphics, configuration, commissioning and diagnostics software prove this to be an integrated system with one software tool for engineering, commissioning, and online troubleshooting. Field device configuration is completely integrated into software along with a uniform database throughout for control, graphics, historian, and I/O configuration.
The availability of Freelance 800F in various languages makes the new version with expandable scalability for system integrators. The compact control system allows the integration of all common fieldbuses, leaving the user to select according to their requirements such as FOUNDATION Fieldbus, PROFIBUS or HART.
