The E-A-Rfit validation system available from 3M Occupational Health and Environmental Safety is used for earplug fit testing applications in industrial workplaces.
The E-A-Rfit validation system provides an objective, personalised attenuation rating (PAR) for each worker. Once a subject is fitted, it takes less than 10 seconds per ear to measure across seven octave bands.
The E-A-Rfit validation system establishes the baseline value for new workers. Along with the PAR, estimates of workers’ fit variability are automatically calculated.
Ratings can then be compared across earplugs and fittings to determine the best fit. Easy-to-understand test results are documented for each test subject, both in print and electronic formats for future reference.
A key advantage of the E-A-Rfit validation system is that the process helps to identify workers receiving inadequate protection that can place them at risk. Additionally, the procedure validates high protection levels required by workers in high noise areas.
In addition to serving as a tool to provide training on proper insertion techniques of earplugs, the testing procedure also motivates employees by helping them realise the control they have to protect their own hearing.
3M’s in-the-ear testing procedure provides quantitative data that does not rely on subject response, differentiating it from similar products in the market.
Protection levels are validated while wearing a range of 3M E-A-R earplugs, including specially-probed versions of 3M E-A-R foam and premoulded earplugs.
