QNAP Systems, Inc. has announced the release of the TS-x31 series Turbo NAS, providing a high-performance yet economical solution for file storage, sharing, and data backup for SOHO and home users.

Powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, this file storage, sharing and data backup solution is integrated with the easy-to-use cloud-based note-taking application and a wide range of multimedia functions. Available in 1, 2, and 4-bay models, the TS-x31 series is an easy-to-use network storage centre for backup, synchronisation, remote access, and home entertainment.

According to QNAP product manager Jason Hsu, the TS-x31 addresses the privacy concerns of public cloud services by establishing a secure and large-capacity private cloud where users can store, share, and access their files anytime, anywhere.

The note-taking application, Notes Station allows users of TS-x31 series to create digital notes on their private cloud and share with friends and colleagues without paying monthly fees and with the confidence that their sensitive information is fully under their control and not stored on a third-party server. Users can edit their notes with the intuitive web-based editor, take screenshots with a Google Chrome extension or desktop Qsnap application, and create to-do lists and calendar alerts that can be synchronised to Google Calendar to efficiently manage their daily tasks. Notes can also be enriched with media files stored on the TS-x31, with users enjoying convenient access via the Qnotes mobile app.

The TS-x31 series has a powerful and energy-efficient Freescale ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 512MB DDR3 RAM, delivering up to 110MB/s read and 80MB/s write speeds. Equipped with dual LAN ports, the TS-231 and TS-431 solutions support dual IP settings and port-trunking modes, enabling users to set up fault tolerance or link aggregation for increased data throughput.

The offline HD video transcoding allows users with slow, limited or restricted Internet connections to continue enjoying smooth video streaming by playing a pre-rendered, device-optimised version of the video. Hsu adds that users can also set the TS-x31 to handle transcoding tasks when they are at work or asleep, allowing them to watch videos immediately after getting home or waking up.

The TS-x31 series is perfect for serving as a home multimedia hub with a wide range of multimedia applications. With DLNA and AirPlay support, the TS-x31 series allows users to view photos, listen to music, and watch HD-quality videos stored on the TS-x31 throughout their home on compatible Smart TVs, game consoles and media players.

Using Photo Station, Music Station, and Video Station apps, users can centralise their media collection, sync files across various devices, and easily share with family and friends. Remotely accessing and managing files stored on the TS-x31 is extremely easy with the Qphoto, Qmusic, Qfile, and Qmanager mobile apps.

The TS-x31 series features three SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports allowing users to flexibly arrange tasks with USB devices to increase productivity. Users can back up files to USB drives, access data stored on SD cards via USB card readers, and connect to a USB-based UPS to ensure continuous power supply.

Users can also increase the functionality of the TS-x31 series with the QTS App Center that provides various install-on-demand apps developed by QNAP and third-party developers, including backup/sync, productivity tools, content management, communications, download, entertainment and more.

QNAP's development platform also allows developers to create various applications, adding even more value to the TS-x31 series and providing near-unlimited functionality for users.
